Thomas Smyth and Savannah Derr founded The Bar Philadelphia in 2021! The name stems from bartending together throughout college and ties in conveniently with their mutual love for working out, which is where the idea for The Bar PHL was born.

Savannah is a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer who studied Kinesiology at Temple University. Before opening The Bar, Savannah had written custom programs for online clients and built up her experience and clientele by Personal Training at Crunch Fitness. In the year that the gym has been open, she has built a good sized client base that is made up of both women and men whose goals align with strength training! Although Savannah specializes in strength training, she absolutely loves training clients with other goals and will create a 1-on-1 program for you that will help you reach them efficiently. She also loves to make workouts fun for her clients and enjoys creating friendships with them along the way!

Lex’s overall goal is for her clients to become happier and healthier versions of themselves. She cares deeply about her clients and nothing makes her happier than watching them transition into stronger, more confident, happier individuals. Through her approach in strength and weight loss training, Lex shows her clients what their bodies are capable of achieving and helps them to find joy in the movement of their bodies. She understands that most people feel lost in the fitness realm or don’t feel comfortable training on their own, so that’s where she comes into play to support, encourage, and guide her clients in becoming their best self. Taking on a new lifestyle can be challenging, which is why Lex knows how important it is to be there for her clients every step of the way to help push them in achieving the goals they have always desired.
